1965 Shelby Cobra
On the outside, this just looks like a beautifully built 1965 Shelby Cobra. But anyone else you let in the drivers seat can feel this is a meaner and sharper car than most other snake-bitten replicas out there. Thats because this is a Backdraft Racing Cobra. That means a professionally-built 351 V8, fully independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, beefy five-speed gearbox, and a whole host of other goodies to make this one of the baddest Cobras youve ever laid eyes on. The Titanium Silver with gray painted stripes is a modern hue interpretation of an iconic application. Underneath the skin, youll see the same kind of spirit, too, but more on that in a moment. If you know the Backdraft cars, you know they take time with the craftsmanship and high-quality fiberglass bodies. So silver paint has a smooth canvas to let the light roll along the Cobras iconic curves. And as youre checking out the body, youll see all the best of a modern Cobras speedy style with widely flared fenders, racing jack bumpers, a chrome roll hoop, and proper heat shields over the awesome side pipes. Plus, the iconic look of ten-spoke Halibrand-style wheels always is a Cobra favorite, and the extra wide rear tires love to remind you where the power meets the pavement. While Cobras are true race-bred machines, this one also takes the time to be stylish. So you have a black racing tonneau, a removable soft top (provided upon request,) and a nice interior all done in black so that everything coordinates with the exterior stripe. We always like the look of classic low-back bucket seats and proper racing harnesses. Its part of an overall idea where this car takes the correct classic style but updates it for better use. You see it in other places like the thick-grip wood-rimmed steering wheel that still has the classic Cobra logo in the center, and the modern gearshift still is curved forward like on the original Cobras. The atmosphere is more inviting with plexiglass sun visors, wind wings, a padded dash, and full carpeting – including the trunk. But it never loses that racer style, and the mounted fire extinguisher reminds you of that. Plus, crisp VDO analog gauges fill the instrument panel with information, and thats good because a lot is going on under the hood. The engine bay has the clean look of confident performance. The long Cobra air grabber and Cobra milled valve covers look the part of a powerful roadster, but what youll really love is that beneath it is a 351 cubic-inch V8 built by the professionals at Specialty Machining. The specs sheet on this motor includes a balanced rotating assembly, forged pistons, Edelbrock Performer RPM cylinder heads, an Edelbrock Air-Gap intake, and topped with a Holley 750 four-barrel carburetor.
